Abraham Kometz, M.D., serves on the board of directors of Aviko and is a partner on the medical technologies team at Deerfield Management. Prior to Deerfield, Avi was a partner at Ascent Biomedical Ventures, where he led investment efforts in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and healthcare information technology. Before Ascent, Avi served as the head of corporate development at a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on pediatrics. He was also a member of the healthcare practice at McKinsey & Company in New York, where he worked on matters including strategy, valuation, organizational change and cost-reduction. Avi received his medical doctorate from the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School, South Africa. He began his career as a clinician in South Africa and went on to found and build a group of clinics.
